Larch arabinogalactan is a soluble fiber extracted from the heartwood of larch trees, and it is the gentlest of the common canine prebiotics. Dogs cannot digest it, so it reaches the colon whole, where bacteria ferment it slowly into short-chain fatty acids including butyrate and propionate. The slowness is the point.
